Looking at how squatters dress and their living conditions.

When researching squatters it became clear that they're very strong willed people and stand up for what they believe in - even though they live in poor conditions they never let elements like that bring them down.
When creating my character 'Lou' I wanted to make sure that these characteristics were conveyed strongly as well as her nurturing/peacemaker side.
I found creating my character very challenging and I knew this would be from the moment I chose it. However, once we had our first proper dress/tech rehearsal, I was able to put my mindset as my character.

The most difficult aspect of creating my character was my costume. Even though it looks like they put anything together I still wanted to make sure it looked effective whilst being on stage because of the lighting, I wanted to make sure my clothing wasn't too dark but not too bright either.
In the end I decided to wear black leggings, which I ripped up a bit, a baggy green checkered shirt with a white vest underneath, which I rubbed in dirt to enhance that I was homeless.

As Jay and I clearly mark our territory in the side chapel of the church we wanted to make sure we made it look like we are squatting there. Furthermore, we made the window-sill our bed by getting a load of scruffy duvets, blankets and cardigans and bundled it all together to make it look like we struggle for warmth a lot.
Another prop we wanted within our room but unfortunately couldn't get was a trolley. Through researching squatters a lot of them appear to have trolleys to carry all of their belongings from building to building.

Overall, even though at the start I found it difficult to create my character, now I feel that this could be one of my strongest performances and I am thoroughly enjoying developing my character! I just hope the audience grasp all of our characters and are able to understand each and every back-story.
